uGET (Undergraduate Global Experience Team-project) 5기 H.E.A.R.T.
Proposal

Epilogue... Shanghai

Posted at // in Steps/2010 Shanghai, China // by Donghun Han

Shanghai, The city of China.
Trip to Shanghai was not just a sightseeing tour for me.
I really needed to take some rest and refresh my mind.
Yes, I satisfied enough and more.

Shaghai was a big metro city than I expected.
You may hard to find traditional chinese things here.
However, It is still one of the most attractive city in the world.
And I'd rather say, it is a orginal Shanghai style.

Honestly, I don't think I would live in Shanghai.
But, I can say I would visit here some other day.

I would never forget yellow light of the Bund.
Everything are in my mind.

This is Xintiandi(新天地).
Which was developed by businessman from HK.
It seemed European style complex, however these buildings are 弄堂 style which is traditional dwelling style of south chinese.

Jazz Club "Brown Sugar"

I prefer Edward Elgar cello concert but it was romantic enough.

One hot day in Shanghai :

I loved old-fashioned streets
resize_image
 in Shanghai

Everyone know that chinese like two things.
Red color and number 8.
Jin Mao Tower is a symbolic building of Shanghai.
You can find chinese idea of '8' in this building.
The building has 88 floors.
And also located on adress 88.
resize_image
View from Jin Mao Tower.
resize_image
Grand Hyatt Shanghai located at 53-87 Floor in this building.
It was really amazing!

Green Tea sesame roll at Starbucks Coffee Shop.
I needed some time for rest.
And I got a chance to have a nice chat with friend.
resize_image
Binjiang Dado is popular street in Shanghai.
There were enough benchs... good view of course.
And you can smell Huangpu River...
I loved it!
resize_image
People.
There were many chinese people but it was hard to find foreigners.
resize_image
It seemed debris of Dock facility.

resize_image
Panorama of the Bund,
In my opinion, night scenery of The bund is more romantic than that of Pudong.
Fabulous!

Yuyuan Garden : 豫园 : 예원 in Shanghai

Posted at // in Steps/2010 Shanghai, China // by Donghun Han
resize_image

The garden was first established in 1559 as a private garden created by Pan Yunduan, who spent almost 20 years building a garden to please his father Pan En, a high-ranking official in the Ming Dynasty, during his father's old age. Over the years, the gardens fell into disrepair until about 1760 when bought by merchants, before suffering extensive damage in the 19th century. In 1842, during the Opium Wars, the British army occupied the Town God Temple for five days. During the Taiping Rebellion the gardens were occupied by imperial troops, and damaged again by the Japanese in 1942. They were repaired by the Shanghai government from 1956-1961, opened to the public in 1961, and declared a national monument in 1982.   from wikipedia

 Chinese style Lamp.
resize_imageresize_image

There were many characteristic small gates as many as separated areas.
resize_imageresize_image
I loved that wall.
When I touched, It was cold but it made me calm.
resize_image
I could feel green vitality at the old traditional garden.
resize_image
Old and green. Breath of moss.
resize_image
On the floor..
resize_image

I can't forget the feelings on my fingers.
resize_image
They are still fighting against a dragon since Ming Dynasty.
resize_image
resize_image
Antique and simple.
Only I and tree in this room. I thought even I could talk to leaves.
resize_image
Harmonious chinese family. They seem to be happy.

resize_image

Yuyuan was quite a big garden than I expected.
It was separated with many different areas delicately. And each area made me feel cosy.

In this garden, you can feel fresh energy as much as old chinese tradition spirit.

Hang out the laundry in Shanghai :

Posted at // in Steps/2010 Shanghai, China // by Donghun Han
resize_imageresize_image

When I first saw this sight, It was little strange thing.
Because, I have hardly seen like this before in Korea.
In Korea, they usually dry their laundry in house or veranda in apartment.
They reluctant to hang out their clothes that everyone easy to see; maybe air pollution problem too.
I'm not sure that Shanghai has a clean air or not. Anyway, in Shanghai, you can see laundry everywhere. Even I saw it was hung at rooftop of department store. And sometimes it seemed to dangerous, can you see a T-shirt hanging on electric power line pole(Left picture)?
